For a variety of business reasons, organizations need to retire legacy systems and replace them by state-of-the-art systems. Orderly migration of legacy systems poses many daunting challenges. Although, they may be old and built on older technology stack, the legacy systems are known to do their job consistently over the years. Many of the systems are critical business systems. Therefore, it is critical that legacy system migration needs to take place without disrupting the business. In the PLM domain, eQube-MI based migration solutions have been successfully deployed for migration of Teamcenter Enterprise to Teamcenter Unified platform as well as for migration of legacy systems to Teamcenter platform. All users that use the legacy system(s) need to be trained in using the new system(s). The training needs to take place on the new system prior to go-live and that requires some portion of existing data to be populated in the training instance. Some of the migration projects are viewed as business transformational projects and that adds to the daunting challenges that a software solution or technology is not able to cover. However, it is proven that the users get comfortable when they are able to work in the training instance of the new system with the data they are familiar with for number of years.
eQube-MI comprehensively caters to multiple migration strategies: 1.Bulk-load, then multiple ‘delta' loads; 2.Bulk load, then one way synchronization – by program / project; 3.Domain by domain migration followed by ‘deltas'; 4.Bi-directional synchronization.
These migration strategies have been proven with a variety of marquee customers with no down time as they switched to the new application. To de-risk the migration project, after the SIT stage, eQube-MI has been used to populate the training instance with actual legacy system data. This method has paid dividends in user-acceptance of the new system while providing a ‘dress-rehearsal' of the actual migration.
